Marjorie, born and raised in the Appalachian region of Eastern Kentucky, the third eldest in a family of 11 children, was practicing mentoring long before it became popular and the politically correct thing to do. Coming from a background where continuing education was not an expectation but a luxury obtainable to only those with the financial resources, she recognized the inequalities of this system and the limitations this imposed on the majority of the Appalachian community, a very capable, honest and proud people. Moving into a leadership position in the early 1970's it became her aspiration to provide an opportunity for non-degree and/or inexperienced individuals by hiring and training internally. She has worked with local technical, vocational and high schools to move students into the work force, sometimes hiring without a high school diploma, and worked personally with these individuals to encourage them to work hard to develop an employable skill. Many an hour has been spent, off the clock, training and coaching and personally picking up the slack. Marjorie earned her degree by attending evening college while holding down a full time job as well as being a wife and mother.

In 2004 Marjorie once again takes the helm of the network as acting director of GCWN in addition to her ongoing role as NAFE coordinator and network treasurer.
